The Great River by Shawn Matthias Edwards

Raging like a storm in fury Breaking waves in the wind

Rides the current like an eagle in the sky

Rushing o’er the rocks Flapping waves like a horse’s mane

Flowing through the endless channels

Loud as a lions roar Crashing as a rock to the fall

To the endless oceanic land  Jumping through the current are the fish in all their fury

Large and small are they

Silver as the moon at night

Tiny as a sliver of light Reflecting off the river’s waves

Are the minnows of the water

Leaping over and under the current Like a rabbit on the plains

Dashing through the blades of grass  Tumbling o’er the side of endless falls

Hurtling to the pool below

Diving like a predator to the pounce  Floating through the forests and the woods

Deer with their tongues to the surface

Drinking the water of the rivers flow

The source of all life in flesh And substance of the world

Life-blood of all living things

Is the Great River of the world.
