The Great River by Shawn Matthias Edwards
Raging like a storm in fury Breaking waves in the windÂ
Rides the current like an eagle in the skyÂ
Rushing o’er the rocks Flapping waves like a horse’s maneÂ
Flowing through the endless channelsÂ
Loud as a lions roar Crashing as a rock to the fallÂ
To the endless oceanic land Jumping through the current are the fish in all their fury
Large and small are they
Silver as the moon at nightÂ
Tiny as a sliver of light Reflecting off the river’s wavesÂ
Are the minnows of the waterÂ
Leaping over and under the current Like a rabbit on the plainsÂ
Dashing through the blades of grass Tumbling o’er the side of endless falls
Hurtling to the pool below
Diving like a predator to the pounce Floating through the forests and the woods
Deer with their tongues to the surface
Drinking the water of the rivers flowÂ
The source of all life in flesh And substance of the worldÂ
Life-blood of all living thingsÂ
Is the Great River of the world.Â
